Now widely considered to be an icon of the Symbolist art movement, Franz Stuck's Die Sünde (The Sin) drew large crowds when the first version was exhibited at the premiere exhibition of the Munich Secession in 1893, an association of artists which Stuck had co-founded a year before. In November, 2014, the painting was offered in our New York salesroom and fetched $965,000, a record for the artist at auction.
