Skeeter Phelan is a young white woman, freshly graduated, who dreams of a writing career. Unlike her peers, she does not aspire to marry quickly, but seeks something more—independence and professional fulfillment. Upon returning to her family home, she discovers that her beloved maid Constantine has disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
