This symposium was planned to cover most areas of research relevant to the testis. Fortunately, progress in this field has not been too rapid, so that fact and opinion of 1970 are still worth reading in 1971. As with all symposia, there is considerable unevenness in the breadth and skill of each presentation. A section of "Embryology of the Male Reproductive Tract" contains good reviews of experimental and human studies of the role of the fetal gonad in sexual differentiation. The histology of the testis is treated in superb detail by several Argentinian workers, Vilar, Solari, and Burgos. Cytogenetics was discussed provocatively by Ohno and Ford.
